1. Get a key
Use a free OTP key for WhatsApp OTPs from the WALoops shared number. A key is not needed just to initialize the server, list tools or call get_started.
2. Add the server
Run the command above in Claude Code and replace YOUR_API_KEY with your key. The server uses MCP Streamable HTTP.
3. Ask it to build
Ask your assistant to call get_started first, then use the OTP tools that fit your app. Review and test generated code before shipping it.

Tools your assistant can use

Use a free OTP key or a WALoops Advance account API key for OTP tools; an Advance plan key also unlocks account tools. For send_otp and verify_otp, provide the site_url argument with your app's public URL. Read-only tools cannot change account data.

Frequently asked questions

Does the MCP server need a key to connect? expand_more

No. The server can initialize, list tools and return get_started without a key. Calls that send or check data need a WALoops API key.

Do I need a Meta or WhatsApp Business account for OTPs? expand_more

No for the free OTP key: codes are sent from the WALoops shared WhatsApp number. Sending approved templates from your own number uses an Advance plan key.

Which tools are available? expand_more

With a free OTP key or a WALoops Advance account API key, use send_otp and verify_otp; both require the site_url argument with your app's public URL. get_otp_usage requires an API key, and get_started needs no key. Advance plan read-only tools are list_templates, get_dashboard_stats, list_conversations, get_conversation_messages, list_automations, list_connected_apps, list_campaigns, list_actions, list_recipes, list_bot_flows and list_tags. Advance create and manage tools are send_template, create_template, pause_automation, create_automation_draft and install_recipe_draft.

Can the AI turn on an automation? expand_more

No. The AI can only create automations as drafts saved switched off and named [AI draft], or pause an automation. Only the account owner can turn automations on inside the WALoops app. Store tokens and secrets are never returned to the AI.

Can I use the MCP server without an AI coding assistant? expand_more

The MCP server is designed for MCP-compatible clients. You can also call the REST API directly with the examples on the WhatsApp OTP API page.
